HOW DID WORLD MOTOR SPORTS BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION ORIGINATE?
Thomas A. Pollard, "Dr Tom" is the founder of the W.M.S.B.C.F.. After he saw firsthand, the hardship that his family members endured during their bouts with cancer. Dr. Tom experienced the emotional hardship & pain of the passing of his mother, Anne Pollard, due to bone cancer. His aunt Rose, lost her battle to breast cancer. Dr. Tom's mother was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. She fought it for a little over a year, prior to the removal of the cancer. Anne Pollard, was one of the few survivors of Pancreatic Cancer, nearly 23 years. Anne was diagnosed with bone & skin cancer in 2011, passing away at the age of 86 in October 2011. Although Dr. Tom's mother was not diagnosed specifically with breast cancer, Dr. Tom knew that ALL CANCER VICTIMS FACE THE SAME HARDSHIPS, MENTALLY, PHYSICALLY & FINANCIALLY. Even if the person or the family is fortunate & has adequate medical insurance, the bills can be overbearing. That is when Dr. Tom discovered that MANY FEMALES THAT DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE HAVE VERY FEW PLACES TO TURN FOR TREATMENT OR HELP WHEN THINGS SEEM TOO MUCH TO DEAL WITH, AFTER THEIR BREAST CANCER DIAGNOSIS.
Dr. Tom volunteered his time & skills with a breast cancer charity for approximately a year. In doing so, he discovered, much to his surprise, that there were few charities that existed that were able to help the victims, directly or indirectly, by funding research. Tom further noticed that there were no breast cancer foundations involved in the motor sports industry. In October 2008, he founded the World Motor Sports Breast Cancer Foundation. (W.M.S.B.C.F.) With the knowledge that the motor sports industry & motor sports lovers are very generous & compassionate about helping others.
